October 5th, 2016, I set out for my ‘big move’ back to California! It was my first ever cross country road trip, and while I was sad to leave my family and newborn nephew, I am so thankful to have had my friend and fellow blogger Jenn Wolf to join me. She had never been to the west coast before, so I was excited to show her as much as I could in the short time we had!
After a short drive to Rolla for some Waffle House and shut eye, our journey really began. The first day was the longest. We made a quick stop in Oklahoma where we were able to stand in three states at once (take that A Walk to Remember!) and there were even some buffalo nearby. Those things are seriously gigantic! A few other places we dropped by for a photo op was at the Big Texas Steakhouse and Cadillac Ranch. Our final stop for the evening was our motel, the Blue Swallow Motel in Tucumcari, New Mexico. I don’t recommend many places, but this 1930’s themed retro spot is too cute! Neon lights, your own personal garage port, a rotary phone, and more…the Blue Swallow Motel is a must stay!
With another long day ahead, we woke up early to shoot and get back on the road. That day was designated to finishing our drive through New Mexico, passing through Arizona, and ending in Needles, CA. We saw the Galloop, the famous Shoe Tree, the Continental Divide, and even stopped by to stand on the ‘Four Corners’. I’m not going to lie, I didn’t realize this was a big deal until Jenn become overly ecstatic!
Our last day was a short four hour trip to Los Angeles…this was my most exciting moment! I finally got to take Jenn to some of my favorite spots, new popular spots, and also my old stomping grounds. We make a quick stop at the Chinese Theatre and Hollywood Fame, went to LACMA for a photo with the lights, bought some AMAZING donuts at SK Donuts, and still had some time to hit the Paul Smith and Made in LA walls!
Whether you’re going cross country for a life-changing event or just going on a fun road trip, taking a friend or companion is a must. You’ll have someone to be silly with, have heart to hearts with, and more. Check out our photos below!
Until next time…stay golden!
