It’s National Mutt Day!

Today may not be my typical post, but if you’ve met me, spoken with me, or have followed my blog from the beginning, you’ll know I am huge dog lover. In general, I love all animals (even ones I’m terrified of), but as today is all about those precious pooches, we’ll stick to dogs!

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve most likely heard about the YULIN FESTIVAL and all other ASIAN DOG MEAT TRADE. If not, start googling and prepare to have your heart ripped out, stomped on, and shattered into a billion pieces. I’m sparing you the graphic photos because you should choose what you see, and also because today isn’t about the gory, graphic terror, but about the positivity coming out of it.

Yesterday, I set aside a couple of hours of my day to volunteer over at ANIMAL HOPE & WELLNESS in Sherman Oaks, CA. I’ve been a dog walker and gone to my fair amount of shelters, but what this non-profit organization is doing is beyond heart-warming. Founder and CEO, Marc Ching, has changed the way animal rescues work throughout the world. He has shined a light on just how harsh animal abuse has become, and if he isn’t the first person making interceptions in Asia, he puts all of his focus and attention into rehabilitating abused and neglected animals so they can find a loving forever home. Suddenly, I don’t truly feel like I can call myself a volunteer anymore…but there are so many ways to help, that it all matters. Click to VOLUNTEER.

If you live close by, I highly recommend stopping by and taking a dog for a walk or sitting with them in the pen. There are quite a few that are still extremely afraid, but several that want nothing more than for some love and affection (followed by a belly rub!) That’s exactly what I did, and it’s what I will continue to one to two times a week. Sure, I may get attached, but knowing that I’m able to help those dogs feel safe and wanted again, is satisfaction in itself. Now if you don’t live nearby and want to help, you can donate money or buy from their online shop. Every dollar goes directly towards the organization and proper care/treatment. Need even more incentive? Your donations can be fully written off…no excuse now!

Lets help save these animals in every way we can. We need to be their voices and speak up to help end all of the cruelty going on. These dogs have so much fear and sadness in their eyes, but with your help, you can change that. Join me and all of the others to be that change! Click here to DONATE if you’re interested 🙂

Until next time…stay golden!

xo, Goldielegs
