Beat the Heat

Happy Friday, everyone! So excited it’s finally the weekend…time to put work aside, and get out for some fun!

If you saw my last post, you’d know I took on the challenge to find some of the current top trends by shopping ONLY at Target. Now, I did give myself a little bit of flexibility with accessories because they were items I already owned. The single piece I had already possessed prior to my shoot is the new love of my life in bag form. Friends, I’d like to introduce you to Gaia’s Ark by Cult Gaia! This bag is absolutely perfect for Spring and Summer because you can take it literally anywhere. Dress it up, dress it down, or even take it to the beach.

For today’s look, I was heading out to lunch with a friend and it was beyond hot outside. I wanted to stay cool, but still dress casually chic. So I went with my Mossimo Denim Skirt, a yellow floral WhoWhatWear sleeveless blouse, a pair of strappy Mossimo Huarache sandals, and this cute brown twisted Merona belt. And guess what? All four items were only $71!!! Can’t ask for much of a better deal than that! The bag itself is $125, although I got mine for over half the price at their sample sale 🙂

So head over to Target and stock up on some new essentials to beat this heat! And with summer being all about wicker, braided, and bamboo bags, check out some of my favorites below!

Until next time…stay golden!

How To: Dress for Work to Happy Hour

Work hard, play hard!

When I go into work in the morning, it’s always so tempting to simply go comfortable because I know I’ll be at a desk all day and no one will really even see my outfit. I’m not going to sit here and say I go in a suit and pumps every day, but I continuously do my best to go into work feeling empowered and ready to take on anything. I won’t lie and say I never go in jeans and tee or leggings with a long tunic, but in order to WANT to conquer the world (or just the day…that’s fine too), you need to FEEL like you can. Picking the perfect outfit will make all the difference! Plus, when your girlfriends text you last-minute about a happy hour or if your significant other makes a dinner reservation for date night, you’ll be ready to go!

For today’s look, I decided to make it the easiest ‘work to happy hour’ ensemble possible. Why? Because happy hour is the best hour! This light blue top is by Rachel Roy, and what I love about it is that is has a short sleeve which is super appropriate for work. Then there is the slightest cut-out in the back to add some dimension and shows just a pinch of skin. My pants are a high-waisted cropped dress legging by Shiarjo. I worked with Shiarjo as a guest blogger/ghost writer for a bit when I first moved back out here, and they so kindly sent me these pants as a thank you. So now I can say thank YOU because these pants have gotten me through many office days already! For shoes, I slid into my favorite metallic flats by Louise et Cie, then topped the outfit off with a pair of diamond Betsey Johnson studs and was off!

This was such a great outfit for work, and I received several compliments on it! Mainly the top, because no one had seen me in anything but black for the most part….apparently I need to wear color more often! Nevertheless, this was simply supposed to be an easy on-the-go outfit, which is why I went with the flats. I could have taken heels to throw on, but this shoe is dressy enough that it can be worn to a more casual bar or an upscale rooftop. Now I may be biased, but this is one of the best ‘work to play’ outfits I know. Mainly because I literally didn’t have to physically change a thing. I added a cute pair of ZeroUV sunnies and traded out my Erin Condren planner for my Quilter Koala clutch! If wearing heels is your prerogative, go and rock it girl! Either way, this #girlboss is out and ready to go…did I hear someone say it’s wine o’clock?!

I want to know what some of your favorite ‘work to play’ looks are though. Leave me a comment on here or on my Instagram post with your go-to’s! I’d love more suggestions 🙂 Also, check out some similar options below!

Street Chic

Can you tell how obsessed I am still with all these versions of dusty rose? No? Well, I’ve got another piece for you!

This Rosy Plunging Top from TOBI is seriously my new love….and that’s saying a lot because black is and has been my favorite and go-to for years. I’ve always worn quite a bit of black, but it really began taking over my closet while living in New York (shocker, right?) Once I moved back to California, I vowed to myself, and my mom since she hates how much black I wear, I would try to start adding more color and texture. Plus, prints are so fun to play with! We’re getting off topic though.

This was yet another one of those tops I saw on TOBI that made my heart pitter-patter. Not only do I love the color, but the top in general is so feminine and romantic! I genuinely feel so beautiful in this. Since I’m me though, I wanted to added pieces that still gave it that “street chic” and minimalist edge with a touch of flare. To keep it a slightly casual, I went with my army green moto skinny jeans (similar), a Zara faux leather jacket, a pair of Sam Edelman Delilah D’Orsay Pumps (similar), and my Betsey Johnson butterfly clutch. I would wear this every day if I could! Also, it’s the perfect outfit for happy hour/after work drinks or dates. You’ll fit in to just about any setting!

Well, that’s all for today’s Tuesday trends. Until next time…stay golden!

Stars & Pom Poms

Mesh, sequin stars, AND multi-colored pom poms…it doesn’t get much better!

If you’ve been following along, you know I most always go with a minimalist style. There’s something about clean, crisp clothing that creates a polished look, regardless of what you’re actually wearing. I honestly think that’s how I get away with half of the things I wear!

While attending the Revolve sample sale a few weeks ago, I came across this appliqued mesh tee by MINKPINK and feel in love. It actually came with a white bodysuit to go under, as it’s supposed to be a dress. However, I’m 5’11, so…..yea. I wasn’t going to not buy it simply because it didn’t cover my booty. Like most clothing, I just needed to make it work for me! While choosing what to wear it with, I found an old white H&M crop top that went perfectly under it. Then I threw on my favorite white Calvin Klein skinnies and added my black faux leather Zara moto jacket and Steve Madden sneakers to accentuate the black sticthing on the stars. The finishing touch, and what really tied the look together, were my colorful pom pom earrings from Baublebar! It was the perfect splash of color (along with a hot pink lip!) to make this a stand out outfit.

What’s more Coachella than all things lace and boho style? Absolutely nothing.

Whether you’re attending any of the festivals or not, you can still embrace its vibes! Today’s outfit is Coachella inspired, but it’s always something you can wear literally anywhere!

This particular dress is really unique. The bottom layer is a super lightweight tan and white bold-striped tank maxi dress, whereas the top layer consists of intricate lace, embroidered cap-sleeve layer, adding a sense of romance to it. A little flapper, a little Coachella…who knew it would be such a knockout piece?! For a slight added edge, I paired it with my favorite knee-high gladiator sandals of all time. I have pretty thin legs, and knee high shoes are typically always so large they end up scrunching down and looking sloppy. However, these Louise et Cie gladiators are all leather and lace up the entire way! Not to mention, leather most always trumps suede and softer materials, as they will last longer and look more polished.

If you like today’s outfit and/or want to hop on the festival-inspired fashion wagon, check out some of my other favorite boho maxi dresses and gladiator sandals below!
