Be Your Own Boss

“Conformity is the only real fashion crime.”ย  – Simon Doonan

Part of being a boss babe is being a strong, independent woman. If you don’t already know, every part of my blog is done by me. Styling, modeling, photography, editing, writing, marketing,….you name it and I do it!

Lately, I’ve had several messages on social media, asking how I manage not only a full time job while blogging, but also how I can play each role in such short amount of time. When you truly love and enjoy something, you’ll make the time for it. That’s not to say that it isn’t challenging though. If I’m feeling mentally exhausted, I will take a week break from all social media and come back ready to go more than ever! After all, I am my own boss!

In terms of collaborations, I often receive emails from brands. However, other times I’ll do my research to check in on new styles and/or collections that fit my aesthetic. Sometimes I’ll reach out to a brand that I might not fully fit in with too, because even if it’s isn’t the right time, I’ve introduced myself and will be kept in mind for future endeavors. To me, that’s the hardest part…putting myself out there. Rejection is never easy, but I simply remind myself that I have to start somewhere and the more I believe in my brand, others will too.

Two things that come easy to me are the styling and modeling. I’ve been modeling since I was in 18, walking in several fashion weeks, doing countless photoshoots, and having been in commercials and on tv shows. Needless to say, I’m pretty comfortable in front of the camera. I also learned how to style through working with wardrobe during projects I worked on. I was able to join in on some test shoots, as well, to dress my fellow models. It’s such an amazing feeling making someone feel confident and beautiful! One other thing that comes fairly easy to me is writing. Seriously, papers saved me in school! I’ve always believed that you should write what you know because that’s the only way people will be able to relate to you. If you aren’t relatable, the line for communication gets cut, and that’s the last thing I want because I truly enjoy making new friends!

Photography and marketing are the two areas I’m still learning. I still love what I put out there, but I would give anything to be able to REALLY learn photography…not just click through each and every feature until I get it right. I’ve gotten the hang of it for the most part which has been tremendous help because then I’m not fighting other bloggers over time with photographers every weekend! As for marketing, I think we can all agree that Instagram has seriously been doing us all dirty. What is with the algorithm?! Why does it need to be continuously changed? Do they not want us to succeed? More and more people are joining the digital world for business, which should be all the more reason to make it easier for everyone to promote their brands/businesses. If you have any tips or tricks, please do share ๐Ÿ™‚

So that’s my rant for today. If you made it through the entire thing, I appreciate you! If not and all you did was look at my photos, I hope you at least got some style inspo!

Until next time…stay golden!

xx, Laura

“Give a girl the right pair of jeans, and she’ll conquer the world!”

If you know me at all, you know I love denim. Jeans, skirts, shorts, jackets, shirts, etc. However, when it actually comes to shopping for them, I have THE hardest time ever. I’m sure some of you are rolling your eyes and would argue that there’s no way it can be tough for “someone like me”. I can assure you…it’s a thousand times easier taking inches off than it is adding them on. Not to mention, I may be tall and thin, but I have never gotten rid of my dancer thighs and despite how it looks, I actually do have womanly hips (seriously, ask literally every agency that I ever met with!) But enough complaining…because I may not have a reason to anymore! Long Tall Sally has hooked your girl up! I now own Cinderella’s glass slipper in denim form!

This is just one of many looks I’ll be posting that’s virtually head to toe Long Tall Sally, but to me, it’s the best. Over the years, I’ve become some a minimalist when it comes to style, and there’s something about a crisp blouse (with that one extra button undone) and those perfect fitting jeans that will always make me feel so chic and sexy. Featured above is the LTS Georgette Shirtย and the LTS Skinny Paint Splat Jeans, paired with my favorite nude/clear BCBG pumps (similar). I kept the look super simple so that I could add the flare at the end with my Cult Gaia bamboo bag and these funย Bauble Bar Havana Pom Pom Hoops. Linked below are some of my other favorite skinny jeans too…some won’t break the bank at all, but some are definitely investment items! Check ’em out my fellow giant babes!

Until next time…stay golden!

Flouncy in Floral

Who’s ready for the weekend, raise your hand?! I’m raising mine in case you thought otherwise ๐Ÿ™‚

This week, I sat down and looked at some old photos from my modeling days and in the past in general. It’s amazing to see how my style has changed and grown with me! No joke, I refused to wear pants until I was in the first grade. And even then, they were those silly colorful, patterned leggings with a quirky top. In high school and college, I was totally that girl wearing the Hollister skirts that were basically the length of a belt (thanks for the phrase, dad!). My hair was bleached like crazy and I often wore extensions. If I didn’t have a full face of makeup on, I wasn’t leaving the house. I was so extra, yet so basic. Then a few years ago, it was all about black jeans, black tank, black combat boots, and a leather jacket…shave my head and I legit could’ve been confused for a teenage boy! Granted I was living in New York and that was pretty much the “it” outfit for models, it was just so, blah. Now, I’ve finally realized that less is more, and your style truly does reflect you and how people perceive you. That’s where this dress comes in…

Honestly, how good is this?! I’m seriously obsessed! I’m literally showing zero skin and I still feel beyond sexy and confident. It’s perfect for work, happy hour, date night, a wedding, etc. If you love this dress as much as I do, you can find it here at ANOUVO. They have tons of other cute pieces as well! Ruffles and floral print has been the main trend this summer too, so it just gets better and better. I’ll link some of my other favorite under $150 flouncy dresses below to check out too!

As for now, it’s time toss on a pair of heels and hit the town! What’s everyone else doing this weekend?!

Until next time…stay golden!

Tied Up

Hi lovelies! I hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July with friends and family!

I was lucky enough to take off early for a six-day vacation, so I flew home to visit my family in Indiana. After taking a red-eye and landing at 5:30am, I was beyond exhausted, but that wasn’t going to stop me! Just on day one, I got my hair done (yay for being blonde again!), ran a few errands with mom, then we went up north and I got to see and hang out with my adorable nephew, Kaden! I know everyone says it, but seriously, he is the cutest little ham ever!

The next day, I met up with my friend and fellow blogger, Jenn Wolf. If you remember my post from when I moved to California, you’ll know she did the road trip cross-country with me! Anyway, we, of course, decided we should take the day to shoot! To keep my fourth of July spirit going, I threw on my favorite vintage Tommy Hilfiger shorts (which were actually pants that I hacked up), a pair of classic Keds, and topped it off with my new, super cute Open Back Crop Top from Blush and Stone. Let’s be real, this top is the focal point of this outfit!

If you like this top, you’ll love everything else that Blush and Stone has! This Texas boutique truly carries some of the cutest pieces, and it’s all really affordable. To sweeten the deal though, you can use my discount code for 25% off! Just type in LAURA25 at the end of your order ๐Ÿ™‚

Below, I’ve listed some other ‘tie tops’ I love also!

Until next time, I hope you all have a happy short work week! And as always…stay golden!

Beat the Heat

Happy Friday, everyone! So excited it’s finally the weekend…time to put work aside, and get out for some fun!

If you saw my last post, you’d know I took on the challenge to find some of the current top trends by shopping ONLY at Target. Now, I did give myself a little bit of flexibility with accessories because they were items I already owned. The single piece I had already possessed prior to my shoot is the new love of my life in bag form. Friends, I’d like to introduce you to Gaia’s Ark by Cult Gaia! This bag is absolutely perfect for Spring and Summer because you can take it literally anywhere. Dress it up, dress it down, or even take it to the beach.

For today’s look, I was heading out to lunch with a friend and it was beyond hot outside. I wanted to stay cool, but still dress casually chic. So I went with my Mossimo Denim Skirt, a yellow floral WhoWhatWear sleeveless blouse, a pair of strappy Mossimo Huarache sandals, and this cute brown twisted Merona belt. And guess what? All four items were only $71!!! Can’t ask for much of a better deal than that! The bag itself is $125, although I got mine for over half the price at their sample sale ๐Ÿ™‚

So head over to Target and stock up on some new essentials to beat this heat! And with summer being all about wicker, braided, and bamboo bags, check out some of my favorites below!

Until next time…stay golden!
